Kenneth Athol Webster Collection

Webster (1906-1967) was born in Wellington but migrated to Britain in 1936. After the war he became a collector and dealer in manuscripts, fine art and artefacts of Oceania, mostly obtained in Britain. He believed Maori artefacts should be repatriated to New Zealand. Many items in New Zealand museums were provided by him as a dealer. His private collection was offered to the New Zealand Government but declined.

There have been two public sales by Dunbar Sloane of material from his collection, in 2002 and 2011. Much of the material from these sales went into private collections. Some items have been subsequently sold with Webster Collection as a cachet.
