The stated editor of E. Dadds was of course part of the joke. The real author was Robert Gormack, who was also the printer. The whole series of 10 books was in part a spoof of local histories but also a hand press publishing entertainment.

Part two has more than a few digs at Roger Duff and earlier scholars who wrote about moa. Best bit is the "Dadds adze" illustration.
