Mt Wellington - Maungarei

The site is a large volcanic cone, formerly a Maori pa. It was excavated between 1960 and 1972 by Jack Golson, Wilfred Shawcross and Janet Davidson. The excavations were in response to development threats of water reservoirs and roads.

Davidson consolidated the excavations into a single major report. It is as a result the best known archaeologically of the Auckland cones.
