Mary was born in Wellington and grew up there. Her ealry career was as an illustrator and she retained a passion for art throughout her life. Her involvement n archaeology came while resident in Gisborne through involvmeent in [[Fox Aileen|Aileen Fox's]] excavation at Tiromoana in 1974.

Mary Jeal 1931-2005

Mary was born in Wellington and grew up there. Her ealry career was as an illustrator and she retained a passion for art throughout her life. Her involvement n archaeology came while resident in Gisborne through involvmeent in Aileen Fox's excavation at Tiromoana in 1974.

Mary subsequently became the site recording filekeeper for Hawkes Bay and a very active recorder of sites - in associaiton with Aileen and her husand Mick.

Mary served on the NZAA Council, had two years as President and was on the archaeology committee of the Hostoric Places Trust as NZAA representative.

She retired to Coromandel in 1991.
