Firth, Raymond William - 1901-2002
Sir Raymond Firth was a very distinguished anthropologist. He was Auckland born and took his first degrees at Auckland University before moving to London in 1924 to concentrate on social anthropology. His classic field work was on Tikopia. Before leaving New Zealand he undertook one piece of archaeological work with a description of a west Auckland pa[1]. In the article he credits his cousin Cyril Firth with the survey and plans of the pa. Cyril Firth was later the first Director of Works for the Auckland Regional Authority, a position later occupied by Garry Law.
