Macetown Ghost Town
Macetown is an abandoned town at the center of a gold mining landscape along the Arrow River in Central Otago. Mining was of both alluvial deposits and quartz reefs. Mining extended from the 1860s to the 1930s and the residential occupation extended over the same time. Remains of mines and mining are found over a wide area. The town has a few remaining buildings set in a landscape of exotic trees surviving from the period of occupation[1].The town itself is now an historic reserve.
