Robert (Bob) G W Jolly 1906-1990
Bob was an artefact collector who became an amateur archaeologist. In his career he was a dairy farmer and insurance agent. He was an early member of the New Zealand Archaeological Association and was associated with excavations run from Auckland University from that time on.
He features in many of the reminiscences for the time (See index to Digging into History)and in the campfire songs (see LP Sweat in the Sun Mate, Fernfire Singers, Garry Law, Sue Bulmer).
He had little formal education - happily contrasting his standard 6 certificate with those of the "academics" he sometimes scorned.
